Provincetown is one of the hottest LGBTQ+ destinations in the United States and now that Pride has ended, we’re looking forward to Bear Week in July. With a focus on admiring all the bears, wolves, cubs, and otters of our community, this week celebrates a proud group that deserves some much-loved recognition.
All week long find yourself tantalized by Provincetown’s many events and extra special guests. Someone to look out for would be RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar Eureka O’Hara who is making her Provincetown debut with a one night only show. There will be pool parties and stand-up specials to show all the bears how to have a good time. See more below for all the events Provincetown has to offer for Bear Week!
Key Highlights of Bear Week July 8-15, 2023:
The Queer Street Art of Jeremy Novy: Famed street artist Jeremy Novy is being featured in the Provincetown Pride Center and his work is available on display Fridays and Saturdays during Bear Week. His work features stocky bears like himself, leather pups, rainbow koi, proud do-nuts, and a wide variety of well known drag performers to help bring thoughtful examination of representation and homophobia in the LGBTQ+ community.
BEARMANIA: All weeklong, bearmania is being hosted at different locations around Provincetown to have everyone let loose and party. Themes for the week include “Underbear Night”, “Man on Man”, “Gear/Fetish Night”, and much, much more.
Opening Night Underwear Parties: Bear Week kicks off Saturday night with two different underwear parties, one at Boatslip and the other at Red Room, which happens to be Ptown’s most famous underwear party. And be sure to check out the Red Room underwear parties that continue throughout the week.
Sundays During Bear Week: From the Bear Market at Crown & Anchor that offers over a dozen vendors offering handmade items from bears, to a memorial BBQ for Bear Week founder John Burrows at Provincetown Inn, there’s many ways to celebrate Bear Week on Sunday. There’s Bear Week Bingo and a Bear Boat Cruise to get yourself lost in and also Camp Provincetown if you’re looking for an insect and amphibian adventure alternative to bars.
Sam Morrison’s Stand-Up & Strip Show: Sam Morrison happens to be one of the funniest stand-up comedians alive, and he knows how to put on a show geared towards a bear audience. Back again for Bear Week, Morrison has a diverse lineup of stand-up comedians almost bearing all for the audience. Get ready for a silly, raunchy late night hour of comedy.
Mondays During Bear Week: For all the women loving women out there, Monday has a special treat for you with a NYC Cubbyhole-themed pop-up at Porch Bar. And for all the bears, Tom Goss is coming to Provincetown on Monday for “Pic-A-Nic Basket”, a show that will be sure to get all the Yogi Bears to attend.
Bear Days at the Atlantic White Shark Center: Throughout Bear Week, bears get a special discount on their tickets to the Atlantic White Shark Center, an educational venue that teaches all about a member of Provincetown’s natural world – Sharks!
Tuesdays During Bear Week: Bear Week requires time at the pool, and Tuesdays during Bear Week has all the best poolside events. Otter Pop! at Crown & Anchor is planning to be the week’s sexiest pool party. And then when you’re done being poolside, head to the locker room for a singlet party at Boatslip. But if you’re looking for something a little more intimate and less party, there’s the Bearlicious Sunset Dune Tour, Camp Fire & Dinner on the Beach.
Camp Provincetown Dune Tour Adventures: Looking for a special Dune Tour of Provincetown during Bear Week? Look no further than a tour from the son of the King of the Dunes as he takes you along the coastline to see the full beauty of Provincetown.
Wednesdays During Bear Week: Matt Alber makes his return to Provincetown during Bear Week to put on some of his Grammy Award-winning music on Wednesday and Friday at Crown & Anchor, while singer-songwriter Kyle Motsinger has his own “Bear Week Show” at Red Room. Be ready for fierce original music from some of the hottest LGBTQ+ artists coming to Provincetown.
Eureka O’Hara at Town Hall: Get ready for drag superstar Eureka O’Hara to put on an extra special variety show for Bear Week visitors. The show will have a theme all about elephants that represent a passion Eureka has. They represent size-positivity, kindness, and family, and that’s what Eureka’s show is all about.
Thursdays During Bear Week: On Thursday, there’s a lot of adventure to be had. First up is the Bear Kayak Lighthouse Adventure, where anyone who wants to get into the water can kayak out to Long Point Lighthouse. Later, the National Park Service will be foraying into the Boy Beach tidal pools to teach visitors all about the marine ecosystem. After all that adventure, make sure to spill the tea at Boatslip to party it up and gossip with all your friends, but just make sure to wear gold!
Bear Week Wiener Roast & Pool Party: Party at the Brass Key Guesthouse with all the other bears and Eureka O’Hara for a chance to win the Big Wiener Package Contest. Don’t miss this annual tradition that is the best way to celebrate Bear Week on Friday.
