Venice Mayor Wants to Give Tourist Jumping From Roof into Canal  ‘Certificate of Stupidity’

The mayor of Venice posted on social media that he hopes to issue a tourist a “certificate of stupidity” after the man jumped from the roof of a three-story building into one of the city's famous canal.

The mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, shared footage of the incident to Twitter, calling the tourist an “idiot”.

“We are trying to identify him, to report him, him and his buddy below who made the stupid video for social media,” He posted.

The clip (below) shows the man jumping from the roof, belly-flopping into the canal. He then exits the water and is handed a towel by an apparent friend. The mayor would like a word with the second man as well.

Tourists behaving badly (especially in search of a viral video) are becoming an increasing problem. According to the Independent last year, two Australian tourists were filmed surfing down the Grand Canal.

Arguing that the tourists had made “a mockery of the city” at the time Mayor Brugnaro oversaw a search for the pair who were eventually identified and fined €1,500 ($1619) each and had their surfboards confiscated.
